The first images of 'Playback', the film about the life of Carlos Paião
Playback is the title of one of the hits by Carlos Paião, a Portuguese singer, songwriter, and doctor. In 1981, Playback won the RTP Song Festival and represented Portugal at Eurovision in Dublin, Ireland. Born in Coimbra in 1957, the artist died in a car accident in 1988 at just 30 years old. Despite his short life, Carlos Paião left a mark on national music and the collective memory. The film 'Playback: A Film About Carlos Paião', directed by Sérgio Graciano with the support of Zaida Cardoso, Paião's widow, tells the artist's story from his time as a young medical student to his first steps in music and national recognition. The director aimed to reveal the true artistic dimension of Carlos Paião, which he believes is little known to the general public. Produced by Caos Calmo Filmes with a screenplay by Mário Cenicante, the first images of Playback, which premieres on August 6th in NOS cinemas, have now been released. Rafael Ferreira plays the role of Carlos Paião, with a cast that also includes Laura Dutra, Rita Durão, António Mortágua, Anabela Moreira, and Albano Jerónimo. The film will include an unreleased song, recovered from home demos left by the musician. The musical universe of the film will be brought to the NOS Alive festival stage on July 10th and 11th through Paulo Furtado's project, The Legendary Tigerman, featuring some of the artist's most iconic tracks performed by actor Rafael Ferreira.
