A meeting in Madrid, hosted by a platform founded by Microsoft's founder, included the Energy Minister and the CEO of EDP. Electricity grids and the demand for power from data centres were discussed.

Madrid hosted a meeting between Microsoft founder and former leader Bill Gates and representatives of electricity companies from the Iberian Peninsula, as well as government officials, reports El Mundo. Portuguese firm EDP was represented by CEO Miguel Stilwell d'Andrade, and the Minister of Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, also took part.

“This is a matter that involves the Prime Minister, the Finance Minister, myself and the Minister of the Economy,” she pointed out.

The Minister for the Environment and Energy sees benefits in the operation that will combine the refineries of Galp and the Spanish firm Moeve because it creates a company of larger scale, but the Government will follow the deal very closely.
