The National Institute of Medical Emergency (Instituto Nacional de Emergência Médica or INEM) paramedics have called off planned strikes for September 14 and 28. Following mediation by Health Minister Ana Paula Martins, the STEPH union agreed to a deal that keeps 56 ambulances dedicated to pre-hospital care, with transfers limited to exceptional circumstances.

As part of the agreement, the government committed to deploying five new medicalized emergency vehicles and pairing ten existing ambulances with additional technical staff. A tender to recruit 200 new emergency technicians is also scheduled to open by the end of the year.
