IPMA's Azores Meteorological Forecast and Surveillance Centre issued a red alert for the western islands as a cold front with moderate to strong activity approaches, warning of increased wind and significant sea agitation, CNN Portugal reports. Maritime services, ferries and coastal leisure activities may be suspended or delayed while the alert is active. Those travelling by sea or living on the western Azores islands should follow notices from the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera or IPMA) and local maritime authorities.
