Falta de médicos atrasa arranque da urgência de Obstetrícia

The opening of the new regional Obstetrics-Gynecology emergency at Hospital Garcia de Orta in Almada, Portugal, has been delayed due to a shortage of doctors. The plan, initially scheduled for March, is hindered by obstetricians at Hospital do Barreiro who have not agreed to transfer to Almada, complicating the organization of the service. Only three out of seven obstetricians from Barreiro have agreed to move, affecting the completion of staffing schedules and the establishment of joint teams among hospitals in Almada, Barreiro, and Setúbal. Authorities and local officials express concern about potential overburdening of Hospital Garcia de Orta and reduced access to maternal and infant care services in the region. The delay reflects ongoing challenges in reorganizing obstetric emergency services in the Setúbal Peninsula.
