A tribute to the “Portuguese heroes of Brazil”—historical figures ranging from the military men who established the country's borders to Emperor D. Pedro I—begins this Monday with a session at the Lisbon Geographical Society. The “Expedition 2026” project, led by 89-year-old António Carrelhas, will travel across Portugal to visit the birthplaces of four key figures: Pedro Teixeira, Martim Soares Moreno, José da Silva Paes, and D. Pedro I. The journey concludes in Cantanhede, the hometown of Pedro Teixeira, who claimed the Amazon for the Portuguese Crown in the 17th century. The initiative aims to highlight the historical contributions of these individuals to the formation of Brazil through ceremonies and educational activities.
