One person died and another sustained minor injuries following a collision between two vehicles, followed by a pedestrian accident, which occurred this morning on the IP2 main road in the municipality of Beja, according to Civil Protection. A source from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection told Lusa agency that at 09:25 the victim's body was still at the scene, while the person with minor injuries had already been transported to Beja hospital. The accident occurred at kilometre 336.2 of the IP2, in the parish of S. Matias. Traffic is currently restricted, with the northbound lane closed, though vehicles are being diverted through the opposite lane. The source, who could not yet confirm the gender or age of the victims, stated that the alert was received at 07:16. 15 personnel and 10 vehicles were mobilised to the scene, including firefighters, the GNR, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) – which dispatched the emergency medical and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) from Beja hospital – and the company Estradas da Planície.
