The Sintra executive has begun removing all illegal billboards across the municipality's 15 parishes, including those near traffic signs. Mayor Marco Almeida stated the operation aims to improve public safety and restore the aesthetic quality of the area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. An external survey identified 181 illegal structures out of 517 total, with the number potentially rising to over 250 due to damaged units. The municipality is notifying the 72 entities involved, including advertisers and landowners, and will charge them for removal costs if they fail to comply voluntarily.
