Some festivals occupy halls. BABELL wants to take over the city of Porto (and brings together two Nobel Prize winners)

BABELL, a new festival promoted by the Livraria Lello Foundation in co-production with Porto City Council, aims to transform the city into a stage for literature, music, and thought from June 24 to 29, 2026. The event features an ambitious lineup including Nobel laureates and renowned authors such as Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, and Olga Tokarczuk. A unique feature of the festival is that access to sessions requires the purchase of books from a network of local bookstores, aiming to strengthen the bond between cultural programming and the city's book trade. The program includes performances by artist Cai Guo-Qiang, concerts by GNR and Pedro Abrunhosa, and various literary and educational activities across Porto's historic landmarks.
