Portugal could be in a more comfortable position to face an energy crisis, particularly regarding natural gas, had it not delayed the development of its biomethane market, according to the secretary-general of the Portuguese Bioenergy Producers Association (APPB). Jaime Braga argues that despite the government's 2024-2040 Action Plan, a lack of regulation is stalling investment and preventing the country from reducing its dependence on foreign fossil fuels, unlike other European nations that are rapidly scaling up production.
Delays in the biomethane market leave the country with less energy sovereignty
