The Minister of Internal Administration is travelling across the country to personally hear and understand the difficulties and concrete needs of volunteer firefighters, stating that proximity is essential for future decision-making. According to a government statement, Luís Neves began a 'proximity tour' on Tuesday, visiting fire departments in Oleiros, Soure, and Leiria to strengthen direct dialogue. The initiative aims to gather firsthand insights into operational challenges and humanitarian association needs, as the minister believes public policy must be built on the experience of those on the ground. This comes at a demanding time for the civil protection system, which is facing more frequent extreme weather events. The tour will continue across all districts in the coming weeks as the government prepares reforms for the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).
