Released in cinemas this week, 'Cherchez la Femme', the final film by António da Cunha Telles (1935-2022), is a true anomaly. While it is a posthumous work—finalised by his daughter, Pandora da Cunha Telles, and André Rosa Carvalho—its status is secondary to the film's strange, unsettling allure. Adapting Mário de Sá-Carneiro's 1914 text 'A Confissão de Lúcio', the film defies modern, politically correct narratives to explore an ambiguous, suicidal love story that transcends gender boundaries. Cunha Telles, a key figure of the Portuguese 'Cinema Novo' movement, delivers a work that captures the essence of the 'romanesque'—a blend of romantic death-drive, erotic irony, and dramatic mockery. The film leaves behind a singular legacy that challenges the cultural stagnation of today's media landscape.

The final film by producer and director António da Cunha Telles arrives in cinemas and on the Netflix streaming platform.

Between character study and the creation of an atmosphere close to a thriller, “The Boatman” has solid narrative assets.

Documentary tells the story of Angelita Pérez, born in the Basque Country and sent by her family in 1937, at the age of four, to the then Soviet Union.

With the release of his second feature film, O Barqueiro, director Simão Cayatte confirms his unique cinematic vision. The film follows Joaquim, an anti-hero recently released on parole who begins working as a boatman in an illegal clam-harvesting operation on the south bank of the Tagus. Through a minimalist narrative and a focus on the physical actions of the characters—brought to life by actors such as Romeu Runa, Jani Zhao, and Miguel Borges—Cayatte crafts a realistic, poetic portrait that avoids the clichés of national identity, instead grounding its drama in the authentic textures of work and human gesture.

The film is the filmmaker's second feature and addresses the illegal exploitation of clam harvesting on the south bank of the Tagus.

The film “Entroncamento” is the second feature film by director Pedro Cabeleira. After “Verão Danado” and the short film “By Flávio”, the director returns to film in spaces familiar to him. Entroncamento, the city where he grew up, was Pedro Cabeleira's natural choice for making the film.
The director returned to the city where he grew up. With actress Ana Vilaça sabotaging misogyny and questioning racism. One of the most vibrant political statements in Portuguese cinematography.

The film portrays suburban communities and a youth adrift, and was shot in the director's hometown.

Between documentary and fiction, the Portuguese director uses two stories like so many others to create a film that deserves to be seen, thought about, and debated.

In his highly anticipated return to feature filmmaking, Pedro Cabeleira returns to his hometown, but neither he nor Entroncamento are the same. Can a film humanise what seems forgotten?

Both 'Batalha Atrás de Batalha' and 'Pecadores' are grandiose spectacles, full of generosity and technically stunning. They are declarations of war. They are the lion roaring. A chronicle by Miguel Esteves Cardoso.
