Donald Trump warns of a "very bad future" for NATO if allies do not help in the Strait of Hormuz
The US President warned on Monday, March 16, that NATO faces a “very bad future” if allied countries do not help restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which was closed by Iran in response to US attacks. Trump argued that nations benefiting from the strait should help ensure its security, noting that Europe and China rely on Gulf oil. While Trump has called for allies to send warships to keep the waterway open, the response has been lukewarm. EU officials, including Kaja Kallas, have noted that the Strait of Hormuz is outside the Alliance's area of operations, emphasizing the importance of independent or EU-led naval missions to protect maritime traffic.
