Portuguese energy company Galp has finished installing green hydrogen equipment at its Sines site, advancing its decarbonisation plans and development of renewable fuel infrastructure.

According to the oil company, the new 100 MW electrolysis unit will enter production in the second half of the year and is expected to produce up to 15,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year.
The future Cachenas wind farm is expected to produce 308 gigawatt-hours annually, contributing to green hydrogen production and to the decarbonisation of the economy.

In addition to more money for energy storage, Brussels has given Portugal more time to carry out investments in batteries and green hydrogen, without losing funds from the PRR (Recovery and Resilience Plan).

A Portuguese–Andalusian collaboration seeks to position Southern Europe as a leader in green hydrogen through joint projects, increased production capacity, infrastructure development and cross‑border investment between Portugal and Andalusia.

With a view to “supplying green electrons to Galp's refinery”, the energy company has begun the preliminary phase of the environmental licensing for a 129-megawatt wind farm in the Sines region.
