Created in 2018 for the Israeli company Batsheva, the piece — now danced by the Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon — finally makes it to Portugal. “A game of building up and tearing down, a pathetic referee”: does that sound familiar?

“My Fierce Ignorant Step” and “Mycelium”: the choreographer returns to Portugal with two works that continue a minimalist approach to collective movement — a challenge in the face of the pace of the present moment.

The biennial prize supports artists across a range of fields, from visual arts and film to music and performance, and is awarded to creators committed to innovating their disciplines.

Composed of solos by Isabel Teixeira and Diogo Freitas, two of the dancers from the inclusive dance company, the piece is choreographed by Tânia Carvalho and premieres this Wednesday at the Teatro Viriato.

Includes a concert by Stephen O’Malley; the new dance by Marlene Monteiro Freitas; Class Enemy by Manuel Tur; the new album by Abrunhosa; and Dino D’Santiago as a visual artist.

Drawing on Manuel da Fonseca's Cerromaior, the choreographer reflects on the Margem Sul and lays bare inequality. Amina is presented on Saturday in Matosinhos, followed by shows in Almada, Moita and Coimbra.

The choreographer revisits two landmark works from her career at the CCB: Poesia e Selvajaria, which premiered in 1998, is (re)discovered on Thursday and Friday. It is followed by Um Estar Aqui Cheio in February.
