Pharmacies Resume Methadone Dispensing Across Seven Municipalities

Community pharmacies in seven municipalities will begin dispensing methadone to patients undergoing treatment for opioid addiction on Sunday. The initiative restarts pharmacy-based distribution after 14 years, operating initially in Albufeira, Loulé, Portalegre, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel, Santiago do Cacém, and Vila do Bispo. Health authorities plan to expand the distribution model across the rest of the country in phases to improve daily treatment compliance.
