Exhibition and tribute mark IADE Day

An exhibition and the awarding of insignia to professor Helena Souto will mark IADE Day on Monday, March 23rd. Starting at 4:30 PM, the Faculty of Design, Technology and Communication at the European University will celebrate the day with the opening of the exhibition 'Fragments of Portuguese Design', a showcase featuring pieces from the private collection of designer and IADE director Carlos Rosa. The celebration also includes the presentation of insignia to professor Helena Souto in recognition of her contribution to the history of design in Portugal. The event announcement explains that the exhibition brings together diverse items such as furniture, products, newspapers, and philately, spanning different eras and cultural contexts. Examples include chairs designed by Daciano da Costa and José Espinho, stamps created by Almada Negreiros, and books by designers such as Sebastião Rodrigues and Victor Palla. The pieces cover the period from 1920 to the 2000s. By honouring Helena Souto, a PhD in Art Sciences, researcher at UNIDCOM/IADE, and specialist in the History of Design and Art in Portugal, IADE highlights her central role in the study and preservation of design memory in the country. The José Alvalade Stadium has been nominated for an international design award.
