New audio recordings from the 'black box' of the electrical system, recently submitted to the Senate inquiry commission, reveal that the grid operator Red Eléctrica (REE) was aware of the system's extreme vulnerability months before the total blackout that paralysed the Iberian Peninsula on 28 April 2025. The recordings contradict the official narrative that the event was 'unpredictable', showing that technicians had repeatedly warned about the grid's inability to manage the transition from heavy generation sources to solar power, as well as the lack of system inertia. These revelations challenge the testimony of REE president Beatriz Corredor and suggest that the operator ignored systematic signs of instability, leading to significant economic losses and service disruptions across the region.
