Health: Private sector accounts for 75% of the 1,440 complaints registered in the first quarter of the year

The Portal da Queixa recorded 1,440 complaints between January and March, an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The private sector accounted for 75.5% of complaints (1,087 incidents), an 18.93% rise, while the public sector saw a 15.5% reduction, with 353 complaints. According to the Quarterly Health Status Barometer in Portugal, developed by Consumers Trust Labs, the quality of clinical care in the private sector remains the primary reason for complaints (39%). The report also highlights an increase in complaints regarding financial and billing issues (24.62%) in private institutions. In the public sector, clinical care quality represents 56.8% of complaints, with emergency services remaining a major point of tension, particularly in Obstetrics (29.8%) and Pediatrics (10.5%). Women filed the majority of complaints, with the 35-44 age group being the most active.
