The CGTP announced on Wednesday, March 18, that it will hold a “major national demonstration” in Lisbon on April 17 to continue the “fight against the labour package.” Secretary-General Tiago Oliveira stated that the protest, to be held in front of the Assembly of the Republic, aims to demand the withdrawal of the labour package and a reversal of current government policy. Oliveira accused the government of being the “main promoter” of an “assault on workers' rights,” arguing that the legislation is detrimental to employees despite government claims that it aims to boost wages and improve living conditions.
