A native of Caxias do Sul, Juca thought his life outside Brazil would last only a few months when he had to go into exile in 1972 at the age of 34. After spending time in Argentina and the Soviet Union, he arrived in Portugal for the first time in October 1975, a year and a half after the Carnation Revolution. Upon arrival, Juca found a country forming as a democracy, with a scene that was 'boiling'. In 1978, Juca took a bold step and created what was the first Brazilian restaurant in Lisbon. Located in Bairro Alto, 'Brasuca' quickly became a meeting point for those who were making and living the revolution. The Radar DN Brasil podcast airs every Friday at 8 am on the DN Brasil YouTube and Spotify channels, featuring a weekly summary and everything of interest to Brazilians in Portugal.
