The Socialist Party (PS) is demanding that the Government submit the contract and specifications for its deal with NewsWhip to the Assembly of the Republic, accusing the executive of struggling with press freedom. The PS parliamentary leader, Eurico Brilhante Dias, expressed concern over the tool's ability to rank journalists, rejecting the Government's claim that it is merely 'modern clipping'. The contract, worth approximately 40,000 euros, is intended for monitoring social media and online news, but the opposition fears it will be used to influence media coverage and control journalists.
