PROFILE || He became a member of the Socialist Party (PS) one month after turning 18. He served as secretary-general of the party's youth wing and, later, as secretary-general of the PS — a post he left following the primary elections that chose António Costa as the party's leader. The episode that precipitated that departure was the 'violent abstention' over the 2014 State Budget. Friends describe him as 'a man of convictions', 'measured', 'rigorous', 'mobilising' and 'disciplined'.
