The European Commission has announced the creation of a Fuel Observatory to monitor reserves across the EU and act swiftly against potential shortages caused by the conflict in the Middle East. The initiative is part of a broader package of measures to address the energy crisis, which includes clarifying flexibilities in the aviation sector, coordinating gas and oil reserve management, and accelerating the transition to clean energy through electrification. Brussels also plans to introduce temporary support for consumers and industry, promote private investment to meet the €660 billion annual transition cost, and encourage alternatives to car and air travel to reduce consumption.
