The storms that hit the country in January and February left a trail of destruction, especially in the Central Region. The consequences continue to impact many household budgets. According to JN, more than a thousand families have already requested a suspension of their home loans. The figures were compiled by Caixa Geral de Depósitos and Santander, which approved the majority of requests. Additionally, there are two thousand requests from companies seeking to rebuild facilities following the extreme weather events. At stake is the 15-measure package presented by the Government, which includes the possibility of requesting a 90-day moratorium on business loans and primary residence home loans. This allows for the suspension of payments for three months, with the period extendable for another 12 months. Insurers have paid 41% of damages and will have to pay out one billion euros in compensation. The year ends with a 0.7% surplus, which the Minister says provides 'room to respond to the storm and Iran crises'.
