Proposing a critical revisit of the history of the D. Maria II National Theatre, the documentary 'Auto da Casa' is one of the highlights of the IndieLisboa festival. Produced by Pedro Borges and directed by Joana Cunha Ferreira and Tiago Bartolomeu Costa, the film functions less as an artistic history and more as a political one, examining how the institution has been shaped by the regimes it has endured. Through extensive archival research, the documentary explores the theatre's complex legacy, including the tenure of Amélia Rey Colaço and Robles Monteiro, and the persistent intersection of theatrical performance and political influence in Portugal.
