Late receipts lead 60% of Portuguese companies to delay payments, study says

Payment delays are causing a domino effect in supply chains, with 62% of European companies paying suppliers late due to late receipts, a situation that affects 60% of companies in Portugal, according to Intrum. The 29th edition of the European Payment Report highlights that 12% of European business revenue is received past the due date, exceeding sustainable levels. In Portugal, this figure stands at 10.27%. The study notes that 57% of European firms missed growth targets due to these delays, while B2B payment gaps have widened from 16 to 20 days. To mitigate risks, 58% of companies are tightening payment discipline, and 66% are adopting Artificial Intelligence to improve efficiency.
