Waste collection in the municipality has already been affected since Tuesday night. No collection trucks have been deployed.

Materials can be delivered to the municipal yards, located in the town's industrial area, every day, including weekends, between 08:00 and 17:00.

The council added that teams are on the ground and working to reduce disruptions and to restore normality to household waste collection as quickly as possible.

Electrão again highlights the usefulness of the door-to-door collection service for large household appliances — a service that removes tonnes of electrical and electronic waste from the streets. Otherwise, such waste would contaminate the area both visually and environmentally.
The figure represents a 34% increase compared with 2024.

The City Council also says that, of the total collected, three tonnes were recyclable waste, which “demonstrates care and civic-mindedness on the part of the population”.

Waste collection will only take place from 06:00 on 26 December, so refuse is piling up in Lisbon's streets, made worse by the fact that, amid Christmas celebrations, the amount of waste has increased considerably.
