The musician would have turned 88 today. He ended a 60-year career in September 2024, having released his final album, 'O Abraço da Guitarra', that year.

“We can't say it's an album of cante alentejano, but its roots are there,” explains the musical group Bandidos do Cante. The new project is a mix of pop and traditional music.

The celebrated musical is joined by traditional singing, pianos and the final performances of “The Second World War Live and in Colour”.

It recalls the famous Christmas songs, from the 'janeiras' (traditional New Year songs) to more erudite pieces, sung by the cantadores dos Reis or 'reiseiros', as evoked by Aquilino Ribeiro in O Livro do Menino Deus.
