1920: Miguel II of Braganza, head of the Miguelist branch of the Portuguese royal house and lifelong exile, formally renounces his claim to the Portuguese throne in favour of his son Duarte Nuno of Braganza. The act helps reconcile the two surviving lines of the dynasty and clears the way for the eventual unification of the Casa Real de Bragança after the death of Manuel II.
