Several communities in the municipality of Bragança were left virtually cut off by heavy snowfall, which prevented vehicles from reaching them. Firefighters helped distribute around 50 meals.

Although passable, the A24 was restricted at 09:45, with some lorries and cars stopped or blocking the carriageway between Vila Real and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.

Access to the Torre at Serra da Estrela, which had been closed since Thursday afternoon due to snowfall, reopened at 10:30 today, a Civil Protection source told the Lusa news agency.
Sections of National Road 338 between Piornos, the Torre and Lagoa Comprida were closed to road traffic on Thursday.

IPMA issued a yellow warning for these areas, with snowfall expected above 1,200 metres.
