Early on Saturday afternoon the Porto Firefighters received an alert about a small boat that was reported to have capsized.

A boat sank on Saturday afternoon on the Douro River beside the Freixo Bridge. One of the crew is missing, CNN Portugal reporter Sofia Fernandes, who is at the scene, reports. The small recreational vessel went down alongside the Ponte do Freixo in Campanhã, Porto, a source at the Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of the Porto Metropolitan Area told Lusa. According to the same source, the alert indicated two people were on board and that one had managed to swim to the river bank. A source from the Sapadores do Porto (Porto municipal firefighters) told Lusa that one person who had been on the vessel was rescued and is receiving assistance at the scene, and that a team is conducting searches to establish whether there was indeed a second person on board. The alert was raised at 15:11, according to the Civil Protection website. The Maritime Police, Sapadores do Porto, INEM (National Institute of Medical Emergency) and the Porto Volunteer Fire Brigade are at the scene.
