EU Council gives green light to ban on Russian gas in Europe by 2027

The Council of the European Union has formally approved an end to imports of Russian gas by 2027, with Hungary and Slovakia voting against and Bulgaria abstaining. The bans will take effect six months after entry into force, with existing contracts subject to a transition period.
