The European Commission has archived a complaint regarding the management of Tagus river flows by Portugal and Spain. The ProTejo movement considers the decision “unacceptable” and intends to appeal.

The European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation of the Minho River highlights as concerns “the silting of the river, the proliferation of invasive species and the impacts resulting from flow management.”

'It's a normal situation given the weather conditions,' said the municipality's firefighters. Any worsening of the river's situation depends on whether water releases are necessary in Spain.

The construction of the Girabolhos dam, in the municipality of Seia, and the maintenance of the Mondego's hydraulic works downstream of Coimbra are two essential conditions to prevent flooding in that river basin, farmers and association leaders said.
