The lack of water in the Mondego river is worrying municipalities upstream of the Aguieira dam, leading the APA to prepare controlled discharges from the Caldeirão reservoir to temporarily reinforce flow levels.
An APA official also warned that on 2 and 3 February the tidal range will be 'higher', making it essential on those dates to be able to lower the flow of the Douro River.
Flows are approaching 3,000 cubic metres, a level which, says Civil Protection, 'sets off the alerts' due to rain forecast for the next few days.
