IPMA forecasts a prolonged period of rain next week across mainland Portugal, especially in the north and centre, regions that have been affected by bad weather in recent days.

Heavy rain across the Algarve has pushed the region's reservoir storage to a record 400 hm³. In response, all dams are performing controlled/preventive discharges to manage levels and protect dam safety. Authorities say the inflows improve overall water reserves but releases are being monitored to reduce flood risk downstream and ensure infrastructure integrity.

The dam's mid-level spillways were opened because the reservoir was close to its full storage level. The company asks people to take care in riverside and flood-prone areas.
