Reforestation is expected to be carried out with maritime pine and “some native species” in common land areas of the mountain range. The investment, exceeding one million euros, will be funded by Ikea, according to the City Council.
Last year, 40 hectares of pine and eucalyptus burned on common land in Cepões and Maeiras, in Viseu. Today, local school children planted cork oaks, donated by a company from Ovar, to create firebreaks and generate future income.
