Grupo Barraqueiro today welcomed the Government's intention to award sub‑concessions for the Cascais, Sintra/Azambuja, Sado and Porto railway lines to private operators, and expressed “an in‑principle interest” in operating these networks.
The Federation of Transport and Communications Trade Unions (Fectrans) today accused the Government of turning the public rail service “into a business handed over to private interests, financed by public coffers”, by subconcessioning the Cascais, Sintra/Azambuja, Sado and Porto sections.
The Government has instructed CP — Comboios de Portugal to submit, within 90 days, “a proposal containing the specific models for sub‑concessions” to private operators for the Cascais, Sintra/Azambuja, Sado and Porto sections, the Minister for Infrastructure announced.
