VASP will appear before Parliament on Tuesday to answer questions about issues related to the distribution of newspapers and magazines.

More than a year after the Action Plan for the Media was presented, the press sector is still waiting for the implementation of the main measures promised by the Government. Against a backdrop of intense pressure on newspapers' business model, unions, publishers and distributors share the same diagnosis: without execution, the plan does not address the structural weaknesses of the press sector.

The union body said that 'the mission of bringing the public service and the essential good that is the printed press to every corner of the country cannot depend on a private monopoly'.

The Press Association is calling on the Government to launch a tender to introduce competition in newspaper distribution. In an interview with Lusa, its president also criticises the local authorities.
