Livre almost quintupled its membership in the last two years

The Livre party has seen exponential growth in its membership over the last two years, accelerated by the results of the legislative elections last May. According to a report accessed by DN, the number of registered members and supporters has jumped from 902 in 2024 to 4,511 as of March. This unprecedented growth, which saw numbers more than double between 2025 and 2026, has made Livre the fastest-growing party in Portugal, though it remains smaller than the Left Bloc. The party, led by Rui Tavares and Isabel Mendes Lopes, is currently refining its admission processes to manage the influx of new members, while maintaining strict parity rules for its candidate lists.
