The CDS-PP municipal group in Lisbon announced it will propose naming a street after the late military officer Marcelino da Mata, with a similar initiative planned for Porto. This follows the rejection of a previous PSD proposal by left-wing parties, the Liberal Initiative, and CDS-PP member Helena Ferro de Gouveia, whose individual vote against the party line sparked internal criticism. While the party honors da Mata as the most decorated soldier in the Portuguese Army, critics, including Ferro de Gouveia and left-wing municipal deputies, condemn his actions during the Colonial War, citing alleged war crimes and his role in upholding the Salazar dictatorship.

The votes in favour came from the municipal deputies of Chega, who proposed the motion.

“We do not identify ourselves in the slightest with what is happening in the councillor's office of Dr. Mascarenhas,” stated the leader of the Chega bench.

At the Lisbon Municipal Assembly meeting, Chega deputies stated that the good result in the local elections increased the “probability” that they had “erred” in the “choice of some members”. Councillor Bruno Mascarenhas is not present at the session.

The decision was announced by the president of the Lisbon Municipal Assembly, who speaks of a “loss” for the body, given the personal, human, and political qualities of Margarida Mano.

The Social Democratic deputy was appointed by the Government as vice-president of the CCDR for Lisbon and Tagus Valley. Previously, she was a candidate for the presidency of the Lisbon Municipal Assembly, but ended up losing to the Socialist, André Moz Caldas.
Signatories respond to Margarida Bentes Penedo, who criticised the programming of the Teatro do Bairro Alto and called for a 'right-wing cultural policy' at the Lisbon Municipal Assembly on 13 January.
