PSD MEPs question European Commission on support for security operations in Cabo Delgado

PSD MEPs have questioned the European Commission regarding the future of European funding for security operations in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, as the current support for Rwandan forces is set to expire in May 2026. MEP Hélder Sousa Silva warned that withdrawing funding before the terrorist threat is eliminated would abandon the local population and threaten regional stability. The inquiry, supported by MEPs from the CDS and PS, seeks clarity on potential renewal proposals, the impact of a possible withdrawal, and alternative security mechanisms.
