The A1 motorway is closed in the north-south direction at kilometre 295 in Vila Nova de Gaia following a fire in a lorry carrying beer, a Civil Protection source stated on Tuesday, 24 March. A source from the Porto Metropolitan Area Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection told Lusa that the alert was raised at 10:08, and by 11:00 the fire was reported as extinguished. According to Brisa Concessão Rodoviária, traffic is being diverted at the Jaca junction onto the A29. A total of 29 personnel and 10 vehicles from the Vila Nova de Gaia Sapadores Fire Battalion, Civil Protection, and the Coimbrões and Carvalhos volunteer fire brigades were on the scene.

Earlier on Saturday, this road had already been closed in the north-south direction as a precaution.

The A1 motorway is closed in the northbound (south-to-north) direction at multiple locations between Torres Novas and Pombal.

Meanwhile, the A24 is closed between Fortunho and Vila Pouca de Aguiar in Vila Real.
