Public guarantee leads to surge in high-risk home loans

The public guarantee on housing credit for young people led to a surge in borrowers with a high-risk profile last year, according to data released this Monday by the Banco de Portugal. A risk that now lies with the State. In 2025, 21% of new housing credit operations involved such borrowers.
