The Portuguese Association of Landscape Architects calls for these professionals to collaborate in responding to the devastation caused by Storm Kristin, highlighting the urgent need to transform landscape planning and management. The association states that the storm exposed “old structural weaknesses” in the territory, revealing underlying issues such as inadequate forest management and poor integration of green infrastructure. They emphasize that recovery should not just restore what was lost but also involve ecological reconstruction and improved resilience. The association urges landscape architects to work with national, regional, and local authorities in this effort. The storms have resulted in 16 deaths in Portugal and significant material damage, particularly in the Centre, Lisbon, and Alentejo regions, prompting the government to declare a state of calamity and announce support measures.
