Most of the money is in term deposits, but they still have €86 billion in current (on-demand) accounts.

The total deposits of individual customers at banks operating in Portugal amounted to €201bn at the end of 2025, a record high according to data released today by the Bank of Portugal.

The household saving rate slowed to 15.1% in the euro area and the investment rate remained unchanged at 9.0% in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the same period a year earlier, Eurostat reports today.

The Portuguese economy financed the rest of the world by 2.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) over the 12 months to September, with households recording a net lending capacity of 4.2% of GDP, according to Bank of Portugal data.
