GNR records increase in fuel thefts from motorcycles and agricultural machinery in 2025
Fuel thefts recorded by the GNR fell slightly last year to a total of 1,700, but thefts from motorcycles and agricultural machinery increased compared to 2024, the force indicated this Thursday, March 19. In a statement, the National Republican Guard (GNR) warned about fuel thefts, which have become more prominent due to rising prices and pressure on household incomes. The GNR noted that last year it recorded 1,700 fuel thefts, 44 fewer than in 2024, a decrease 'strongly influenced' by the reduction in thefts at petrol stations. Conversely, there were increases in fuel thefts from motor vehicles and from tanks or agricultural and industrial machinery. The GNR also reported that it arrested 40 people for this type of crime last year and recommended security measures such as reinforced video surveillance and parking vehicles in monitored, well-lit areas.
