Helena Lins, a journalist for CNN Portugal, explains the details of the case of Noelia Castillo, a young Spanish woman who was euthanised this week.

Noelia Castillo was 25 years old. She had spinal injuries resulting from a suicide attempt. Her family opposed the decision, and her father tried to block the process in court. Two years later, the young woman's wishes prevailed.

She was 25 years old.

Noelia died this Thursday, following a year-and-a-half-long legal battle against her father, who attempted to halt the process.

There were 601 days of fighting in court against the wishes of her father, who wanted to prevent the young woman from accessing medically assisted death. Noelia has mental health issues, was raped, and became paraplegic.

The CDS-PP parliamentary leader speaks of a 'victory' for the party, which requested that the former Ombudsman raise the issue of the constitutionality of the Euthanasia law before the Constitutional Court (TC), and sees no reason for the law to be regulated.
The head of state has never revealed his position on assisted dying and has also blocked surrogacy. The Nationality Law will also be left for Seguro to resolve.

The President reflected on the country's major 'cultural divides', highlighting euthanasia and the expansion of access to voluntary termination of pregnancy as some of the challenges he faced.
