The Public Prosecutor's Office has charged the Mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, and 22 other defendants, including councillors and staff, with embezzlement and abuse of power. The charges relate to the misuse of 150,000 euros of municipal funds for personal meals between 2017 and 2024. The prosecution is seeking the removal of the officials from office and the repayment of the funds. The Oeiras City Council has denied the allegations, stating that all expenses were legitimate work-related costs incurred in accordance with standard municipal practices.

The Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting the forfeiture of political mandates for the positions currently held by the accused. Lisbon councillor Joana Batista is one such case.

The defendant was also sentenced to a fine of 400 euros.

The defendants are accused of committing the crimes of embezzlement, money laundering, and document forgery.

In a statement that did not name the accused, the Public Prosecutor's Office said both were charged with the offence of misconduct in public office, apparently in conjunction with offences of abuse of power and embezzlement.
