Of 8,962 drivers checked, 465 were over the alcohol limit, of whom 135 had a blood-alcohol level that constitutes a criminal offence.

Twelve people died and 433 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol between 18 and 24 December, as part of the Christmas and New Year operation.

Authorities recorded 177 accidents, which resulted in one fatality, three people seriously injured and 42 slightly injured.
